The popular FMM Slot Car Club has been going for two years and in September is upgrading to a new, longer, four-lane track. So, after seven rounds, the 2019 Championship, which has been run on the original two-lane track, has drawn to close.
At the July meeting, Jon Lederle (Audi RS5 DTM) just managed to beat his arch rival Mark Venske (BMW M4 DTM) in the Formula Carrera championship. Donny Tarentaal returned to form by finishing third on the night with his Audi RS5 DTM. The category proved to be highly competitive, with six points covering third to sixth positions. In the Formula FMM category for non-magnetic cars, Jon was again the victor with his Porsche 911 GT3, setting equal fastest lap time of the event with Jackie van Wyk (Alfa Romeo Tipo 33) who finished second, with Christiaan Loedolff (Porsche 936) third. In the Formula Libre event, Franklin Smit (Ford Mustang) continued his dominance, with Thys Roux (Porsche 962) second on the night, making fastest lap in the process.
In August, the competitiveness continued unabated and in the premier championship event, Formula Carrera, Jon consolidated his season’s performance with another victory over his adversary Mark. Thys Roux finished third with his Mercedes GT3 AMG. In Formula FMM, yes, that man Jon again with his Porsche from perpetual pursuer Jackie’s Alfa, with Franklin Smit (Porsche 918) third.
The final log positions show Jon as the champion in Formula Carrera with 96 points, from Mark on 93 and Mike Monk (Ford Zakspeed Capri) on 76. In the six-round Formula FMM, Jackie was the champion with 58 points from Andre Loedolff (Porsche 956) on 43 and Jon on 33. The four-round Formula Libre title went to Franklin with 27 points from Thys on 14.
The 2019 season will conclude with three race nights on the new track that is expected to increase the intensity and excitement of this popular FMM event.
