Wendy Monk picks out some interesting historic items from FMM’s photos archives. We start the series with a South African record-breaking run by Dunlop
On 16 August 2002, the Spirit of Dunlop, shod with SP Sport 7000Ds, set a South African Land Speed Record and a World Land Speed Record for standard production tyres with an average speed of 388,538 km/h. The specially-designed car – the Spirit of Dunlop – was driven by Grant van Schalkwyk and the run took place at the Hoedspruit Air Force base, near Phalaborwa in Limpopo Province.
