Darting from one to another
Most local car enthusiasts will know that the Glass Sport Motors Dart is considered to be South Africa’s first locally manufactured mass-production car. Although the Protea appeared six months before the Dart in 1957, only 14 pukka Proteas were built. But four years before either of these cars appeared, there was another Dart project aimed at being SA’s first car. However, it never reached production but the concept is described in the clipping below that was published in the May 1953 issue Motor Age magazine.
