31 Mar Pheiffer Parade
As reported in the January newsletter, South African motorsport legend Adrian Pheiffer passed away peacefully on Thursday 29 December, aged 91. Adrian was the man primarily responsible for the formation of the Western Province Motor Club (WPMC) and the creation of the Killarney circuit in Cape Town, including saving the facility – which is now an internationally recognised venue – from closure in 1965. In honour of his association with the club and Killarney, on March 4 the WPMC staged a car parade during the lunch interval of the Power Series meeting at the circuit. In convoy behind a WPMC bakkie carrying a large photo of Adrian were members of his family followed by friends and members of the local Alfa Romeo and Porsche clubs then some of the competing cars in the day’s racing programme. The parade, which completely lined the circuit, did two laps before a tribute to Adrian’s life was read out on the start-finish line. The lounge on top of the control tower is named the Pheiffer Lounge in Adrian’s honour.
