26 Sep Honda Record
On Sunday 22 September, Garth Hendricks invited FMM to attend the Honda Hook-up world record attempt with the museum’s NSX that took place at Cape Town’s Grand West Casino parking lot in front of the conference venue. Curator Wayne Harley did the honours as the plan was to better 569 cars in order to make it into the Guinness Book of Records.
The NSX was the star of the show and was displayed next to the main stage for everyone to view. The parking area was packed with Hondas of all models and years including Civic, Ballade, S2000, Type-R, Accord, CR-V and more: you name it and it was there. Every conceivable type of modified Honda was also on display; dragsters, racing cars, slammers, sleepers, all in sharp contrast with the many well-looked-after originals.
There where prizes to be won and plenty of entertainment for everyone to enjoy along with and lots of very loud music. “The result has not yet been made known to us, but looking at the numbers that attended, they were unlikely to have been short,” said Wayne afterwards.
