GSM and FMM on the way to the Knysna Motor Show

This year marks the 60th anniversary of GSM, manufacturers of SA’s very own Dart and Flamingo sports cars. To celebrate this milestone, the vibrant GSM club will be putting on a display at this year’s Knysna Motor Show being held on the High School sports fields on Waterfront Drive on Sunday 30 April. FMM will be sending its Dart and Flamingo models to join the many club members’ cars travelling to the Garden Route show to pay tribute to these great sports cars.

This year’s Knysna Motor Show sponsored by Sanlam Private Wealth has once again attracted an eclectic mix of interesting vehicles for display. “The line-up is incredible, and it just gets better and better every year,” said Peter Pretorius, the chairperson of the organising Garden Route Motor Club. “Our selection process and the resulting quality of the displays we’ve been able to attract have made it one of South Africa’s most prestigious motoring events, and this year’s list of more than 400 classic, modern and futuristic cars and motorcycles is outstanding by any measure,” he said. “Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, BMW, Austin-Healey, GSM, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, Cobra, Shelby, Lotus, Ford, De Tomaso, MG, Morgan, Bentley – they’ll all be there, alongside a group of historic microcars from the 1960s and ’70s.” The pre-war MG MMM cars of the ’30s will be present as part of their biennial Indaba, alongside NMMU’s ultra-futuristic Eco-Car and some of the entrants in the Jaguar Simola Hillclimb taking place on the following weekend. Also on view will be the Barnard BTR, a sophisticated Le Mans Prototype-style sports racing car designed and built in South Africa.

Gates open from 09H30 to 16H00. Tickets cost R40 for adults and R10 for children 12-18 years. Children under 12 accompanied by an adult enter free of charge. Proceeds from the event will benefit Hospice Knysna, FAMSA, E-pap, and Knysna Animal Welfare.
